Eye Protection Glasses

The sun is warming up and the atmoshpere is getting more polluted. This can cause harm to our eyes, which is why doctors recommend wearing eye protection glasses.  No matter what our concerns during the day, we should not be forgetting about our eyes, or any part of our body thereof.

The eye is the most sensitive part of the body exposed to the harmful environment.  Although it has some natural protective properties, it wouldn't hurt to wear protection glasses to help shield it from foreign bodies.  Plus, there are properties of protective glasses that the naked eye does not have.

There are several types of eye protection glasses; Goggles are often used in laboratories and research facilities that perform different experiments.  They generally protect the eyes from particulates, chemicals and infectious fluids.  Goggles are usually large and cover almost half the face for maximized eye protection.

There are also those called safety glasses, often times used by individuals who are exposed to flying debris and light.  Sunglasses are probably the most common ones as everybody is or has at one time used it.  They provide protection from the harmful rays of the sun, both visible and ultra violet.  Sunglasses are also recommended when driving open vehicles like motorcycles for protection against foreign bodies that might enter the eyes while driving.

The good thing about sun glasses is that it has a lot of designs to choose from, and it can actually be a fashion statement.  Like cat eye glasses, or those made by world-renowned fashion designers.  Individuals are advised to wear sunglasses whenever they have long exposure to sunlight or dust.

Glasses are not the only stuff you could wear for eye protection.  We also have caps, visors and face shields.  They protect a large area of the face, particularly on the eyes.  The large coverage of their protection makes cat eye glasses seem like nothing.  Their size sometimes makes you feel that you're standing below a shade.  Most people use them for sports activities, or when going out to some place sunny and a bit dangerous.  Visors are great for the beach, whether you are playing or just strolling around.  Face shields are used for extreme sports where collision hitting the face is likely to happen.

For a not so sunny day, you can just use a regular cap.

There are also types of eye protection glasses commonly used in laboratories specializing in laser light.

These glasses are called Laser Protection Eyewear.  These are used by technicians working on the different forms of laser lights, or on factory workers exposed to laser lights while manufacturing electronic parts.

There are also those used by construction workers when welding or solding metal.  It is aptly called welding glasses and they usually cover the entire face or half of it.  The worker sees through a small rectangle made up of thick tinted glass in front of the eyes.

Nowadays, eye protection glasses can be substituted for contact lenses.  But contacts do not provide the maximum protection that regular protective glasses bring.  For eyes which need prescription lenses, you can go to your optometrist for advice on what to wear.  There are also available prescription lenses that are tinted so you could still see clearly even when using sunglasses.

The materials used for these glasses are specially made for the needs of the eyes, and the person.  Some lenses are made of glass, which usually contains prescription, and recommended for those exposed with chemicals.  Then there are plastic lenses which feel much lighter, and more unlikely to fog. Finally there's polycarbonate, which is much lighter, sturdier, and thinner but provides more protection against the sun's rays.  Our eyes help us everyday, isn't it time we give back and use eye protection glasses?
