Constipation is a common occurence especially in places where the community's diet is less in fiber.  There are available home remedies for constipation which one can use for easy and immediate treatment.

In a general sense, all fruits except jackfruit and banana, are helpful in getting rid of constipation. However, there are certain types of fruits that are far more effective than the others.  A fruit called Bael, is said to be the best laxative among all fruits.  This plant occurs in the dry forests and hills of India and most of southeast asia.  It's fruit can grow as large as a ripe grapefruit or pomelo and its shell is so hard that it must first be cracked by a hard object before one can get into the aromatic, yellow fibrous pulp.  In order to use it as natural home remedy, its contents must be taken out and passed through a sieve.  Milk and sugar may be added to improve taste, then it is drunk to improve bowel movement.  The pulp of a ripe bael may also be taken from the spoon wihtout other additions, and 60mg would be enough for an adult.   Regular intake of the bael fruit can help remove accumulated faecal matter from the bowels.

Guavas are also one of the effective natural home remedies for constipation.  Its seeds provide the roughage needed to help normal bowel movement, and is also a rich source of vitamin C.  For healthier bowels, eat at least two guavas everyday.

Oranges, another source of vitamin C, and very easy to find, also cures constipation.  The orange juice excites and stimulates peristaltic movement in the stomach and intestines, helping evacuate the waste material out of the body.

Also proven to be beneficial in getting through constipation are grapes.  Its combination of cellulose, sugar and organic acid makes this fruit an excellent and great tasting laxative.  If fresh grapes are not available, raisins can replace it, as long as it must first be soaked in water for 24-48 hours for them to swell to their original size.  They should be eaten in the morning along with the water where they have been soaked.  Grapes or raisins do not only help promote regular bowel movement, it also tones the stomach and can relieve even the most chronic constipation.

Another natural home remedy for constipation, tried and tested, is the papaya fruit.  A few slices should be eaten in the morning after breakfast, or as needed in order to improve bowel movement.

For other natural home remedies, drinking hot water can also help, although in worst situations, it lends only minimal help.  The glass of hot water may also be mixed with a squeeze of lime and a pinch of salt for better effectivity.  A glass of warm milk is also an alternative.  Drink at least two glasses per day to relieve yourself of constipation, and to provide your body lots of nutrients.  Exercise or other activities requiring physical strength and range of movements also help rid the body of constipation.

There are also over-the-counter drugs for constipation. It may relieve the person on that moment, but it does little help to chronic constipation sufferers.  Fruits are the best treatment, coupled with exercise, lots of water and a watchful eye for food that contains fiber.  Remember that prevention is better than cure, and that home remedies for constipation work better than synthetic drugs.
